To connect new electric service to a home in areas where ICE is the distributor, you must submit a connection request.
General requirements:
- Valid national identity card (for Costa Ricans) or a document proving residency in the country for foreigners.
- Exact address where service is desired, payment location, and address for sending the electric bill.
- Details of the load to be connected: number of light bulbs, equipment and electrical appliances that will be used.
- No outstanding debts from previous electric services.
Requirements according to the size of the construction:
- Buildings larger than 80 m²: the "Solicitud de Conexion de Servicio" issued by the Colegio Federado de Ingenieros y Arquitectos (CFIA) is required, certifying the professional responsible for the work.
- Buildings smaller than 80 m²: the corresponding municipal construction permit is sufficient.
Additional technical documentation:
- Proof or number of the "Solicitud de Sellado de Planos Electricos" from the CFIA, for provisional service connections.
- Copy of the electrical plan with the single-line diagram, signed by the responsible engineer, indicating cable sizes and materials.
- The load amount (kW) to be installed, which is used to calculate the security deposit.
Important note: confirm which distributor serves the specific area before applying, as each has its own request channel.
