Carara National Park is located on the central Pacific coast, very close to Jacó and Tárcoles — one of the most visited parks in the country due to its proximity to Route 27/coastal highway and for being the best place in Costa Rica to see **scarlet macaws (lapas rojas)** in the wild, as well as crocodiles in the Tárcoles River.

**Rates** (VAT excluded, added at time of purchase):

Nationals and residents: ₡1,000 adults (over 12 years old), ₡500 children (2-12 years old), free for children under 2 years old and "golden citizens" (senior citizens).
Non-residents: $10 adults, $5 children (2-12 years old), free for children under 2 years old.

**Reservation**: as of September 2023, entry is purchased exclusively online, in advance, at serviciosenlinea.sinac.go.cr — purchasing the ticket directly at the ticket office on the same day is not guaranteed.

**What to do**: hikes on relatively short and accessible tropical humid forest trails (unlike parks such as Corcovado, it does not require long or difficult hikes), birdwatching, and boat tours on the Tárcoles River to see crocodiles (these tours are operated by private companies, not the park directly).
