Los Quetzales National Park

Los Quetzales National Park is located in the district of Copey, canton of Dota, province of San José, about 76.5 km south of the capital — in the Cerro de la Muerte area, on the way to the Zona de los Santos. It is one of the best places in the country to see the **resplendent quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno)**, a near-threatened bird according to the IUCN.

**Hours**: daily, 8:00am to 4:00pm, with last entry at 2:00pm.

**Rates** (including VAT):

• Nationals and residents over 13 years old: ₡1,130.
• National/resident children (2-12 years old): ₡565.
• Non-residents over 13 years old: $11.30.

**Best time and hours to see the quetzal**: from December to May, during their nesting season — and within the day, early in the morning (between 6:00am and 9:00am), when the birds are most active. Outside that window the probability of seeing one drops considerably.
