Piedras Blancas National Park

Piedras Blancas National Park is near Golfito, in the southern Pacific, with main access through the village of La Gamba. It is a tropical rain forest that originally was part of the National Park Corcovado under the name "Bosque Esquinas", before separating as its own park — it shares ecosystem with Corcovado but with far fewer tourists and without the complex logistics (boats, flights) required to reach Corcovado.

**Hours and fee (El Bonito sector)**: every day, 8:00am to 4:00pm — ₡800 nationals/residents, $10 non‑residents.

**Trails**: the Río Bonito Trail is the reference hike — 3 km, about 1 hour, easy difficulty, although you must be careful with the river channel, especially during the rainy season. It starts in Nueva Zelanda and reaches the El Bonito Operational Center.

Note: because it has less tourist infrastructure than the more well‑known parks, it is advisable to coordinate the visit in advance (local guide, transport to La Gamba) rather than improvising.
