Rincon de la Vieja National Park

Rincon de la Vieja National Park, in Guanacaste, has visible geothermal activity (fumaroles, hot springs, bubbling mud) and trails to waterfalls, within the volcanic complex of the same name.

The park has two sectors with different hours:

• Sector Pailas: Tuesday to Sunday, from 8:00am to 3:00pm. Closed on Mondays.
• Sector Santa Maria: Thursday to Monday, from 8:00am to 3:30pm. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

Entrance fees: ₡1,130 for national/resident adults, ₡565 for national/resident children (fees include VAT). The exact current fee for non‑resident visitors was not confirmed in this verification — confirm on sinac.go.cr.

Reservation: Since August 1, 2023, entry to both sectors must be booked online in advance through the Sistema de Compra y Reservacion en Linea (SICORE) of the Área de Conservación Guanacaste (reservaciones.acguanacaste.ac.cr) — cash or card payment is not accepted at the park entrance.

Note: Because the park is within an area of active volcanic activity, some trails may be temporarily closed for safety — check the park’s status before traveling.
