Parque Nacional Tapantí-Macizo de la Muerte

Parque Nacional Tapantí-Macizo de la Muerte is located in the province of Cartago, near Orosi — one of the wettest places in the country, which makes it especially green and biodiverse, with crystal‑clear rivers ideal for birdwatching and short hikes. It is a popular option because of its proximity to the Central Valley (much closer to San José than most mountain parks).

**Hours**: every day, 8:00am to 4:00pm.

**Fees** (con IVA):

• Nationals and residents: ₡904 adults, ₡565 children (under 12 years).
• Non‑residents: $11.30 adults, $5.65 children (under 12 years).
• Free for children under 2 years and residents over 65 years.

**Reservation**: entry is reserved and paid for in advance online, via the SINAC reservation system (serviciosenlinea.sinac.go.cr).

Note: due to the high rainfall in the area, it is advisable to bring waterproof clothing almost any time of year, not just during the rainy season.
